This past month was just ridiculous.
Kids got sick left and right, on and off, for 3 weeks! This includes a few days of high fever, a few days of low fever, and a few days of ear infection. I hope this season will really true up all the immunity chaos caused by staying home through the pandemic years.
The funny thing is, part of these were self-inflicted. In between the sickness, we had to travel to Sacramento, and Chicago for our elder son’s volleyball tournaments - and this further exposed us to more viral culture of the communities surrounding our travels.
Thankfully, we wrapped up the month with a wonderful trip to Mexico via Princess Cruise. We had a great time with the in-laws, and everybody was healthy during and after the trip! (So… refreshing!?) The cruise line business is now nickel and diming people by charging for minor upgrades (e.g. soda, espresso, premium ice cream are NOT included anymore…), but the overall experience was still good for relaxing and family fun.
For that, I am very thankful - recognizing that there are chaos and tragedies happening around the world during this month!
Here are the things that kept me busy this past month, aside from the day-to-day ‘job’ related stuff…
Creating and hacking stuffs
Game Dev
Apparently most of the month passed through in other things IRL and my game dev tasks were put off through the whole month. Will try and see if we will fare better in December… Feel free to play the pre-released game Qin - on Google Play store (playable on Android phones and Chromebooks), Itch.io & gd.games.
Drawing
Weekly project drawing (comics) - here is a taste of the comics I’ve done this month - full 3-panel versions are on most of my social feeds, Artstation, and of course, my (paid) Patreon page.
Easiest way to make sure not to miss them is to follow the social links on the LinkTree profile)
Study drawings - I’ve switched from the study drawing to follow the one prompt word a week rule of #inktober52 and here they are
#FanArt (always fun to do!)
Writing
Book#2 project -“100 Drawings of Tang Dynasty Poems” (唐詩一百畫) - almost done! Still hoping to publish by the Christmas holiday time…
The pre-released drafts of this book will continue to be published/shared with my Patreon members every week!
The Web
Not much updates this month, so just the usual shoutouts for Heta Studio:
Consuming Stuffs
Reading - Continue reading “Tracers in the Dark” by Wired’s Andy Greenberg; also started A Game of Thrones (yes… I had to, more on this later.)
Gaming - Continue to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Falconeer.
TV/Movies
Ma (it had potentials, but ended up just OK, 3 out of 5)
Loki Season 2: very disappointed (since S1 was pretty decent!) I couldn’t even finish the season. If you feel FOMO about it, save the time and just watch this Screen junkies video
Scavengers Reign - this show was mentioned by the fine folks at
and indeed it’s so wonderful! I love the show so much and had to do a fan art on it (above)Game of Thrones S1~S3 - this show has been sitting on my queue for many years for the very reason why I binged through 3 seasons quickly - it’s soooo good! I had to force myself to stop by switching my attention to reading its books :D
That’s it for this issue of my newsletter! If you really finished reading the above, I thank you, and wish that my sharing would either entertain you, or inspire you (if you’ve been thinking about your own creative projects).
